Bridal Showers
A bridal shower is a party for a woman getting married. The
bride is celebrated, usually with friends and family. The wedding
party, such as the bridesmaids, are often included in the bridal
shower. The maid of honor normally heads the planning of the
bridal shower.
At bridal showers, the brides are given gifts and presents
from the shower attendees. When we say brides we mean brides
as a whole, not a group bridal shower party for several brides
at a single shower.
Common gifts may include wedding picture frames, glassware,
dinnerware and other houseware items. Because a wedding is a
new beginning between a bride and a groom, household items are
often common gifts offered at the bridal shower since many start
out with a new home after the wedding.
Bridal Showers History
In the past, many brides were not wealthy, nor were their
families. Often the parents of the bride could barely afford
to feed the family, and when the announcement of an engagement
was presented by the bride to be, to the parents, they were
excited, yet worried. Not enough funds existed to pay for a
wedding, and in old times woman were not actively employed either.
Then came the bridal shower. A group of woman, or friends &
family, would come together to help the bride prepare for the
wedding, sometimes offering a wedding dress or small gifts and
even money to help the bride to be with the wedding planning..
Bridal Shower Favors
Later in time, bridal shower favors evolved. Bridal shower
favors were known in the old days at small decorations and gifts
for guests who attend the bridal shower (just as wedding favors
are offered to guests for attending the wedding). Bridal shower
favors have come a long way from times of old to the present.
Today there is a variety of bridal shower favors, from different
colors and designs to different styles and themes.
