Choosing the Perfect Wedding Song

Don’t forget about the music at the ceremony. Everyone’s attention is on the wedding reception and your choice of wedding favors, but the ceremony is what you are going to remember forever. Choose a song or songs that are special to you to express your feelings on this special day from the beginning of the ceremony to the end of the party!

Traditional or Not

When the bride walks down the aisle, the usual music is the Wedding March. The doors open and everyone stands to see the beautiful woman standing there. It is traditional to play this instrumental piece, but you can change the rules if you want to.

When you are dating, everyone talks about “their song.” It could be a song that was playing when you first locked eyes or on the first date when you knew this was the person you would marry. These songs are important and can be incorporated into the ceremony. Remember, this is your day and the goal is to make it special to you.

Instead of the usual pomp and circumstance, pipe the strains of your favorite dating song through the speakers for the guests to hear. It may not mean anything to them but it reminds that guy at the altar about the way he felt when he first met that stunning woman walking towards him.

Recording or Live Singer

Decide on the song or songs you want in the wedding. It is not required to use the Wedding March for the bride’s entrance. Choose a slow song that means something to you both.

Will you have a singer or use a recording? A song for the bride or any song sung at the wedding for that matter requires a strong unwavering voice to tow the line. If you have several friends who can belt out a tune, audition them to see who can sing your songs with the steadiest voice. To their credit, a live singer can speed up or slow down depending on the length of the wedding processional. With recorded music, you have until the song ends to reach the altar (sounds like musical chairs!).

Other Ceremony Music

Have as many songs as you deem necessary in your wedding ceremony. Maybe you have a first date song, first dance song, proposal song and/or first kiss song. Include them all if you want. Strategically place the songs throughout the ceremony. Use the same singer or change up with each song. All your musical friends can have a chance to brighten the day with song.

Wedding songs tell a story, just as wedding favors sometimes do. It can be a traditional message of love or one more personal that chronicles your life and love up to that point.
